YNW MELLY – Judge Declares Mistrial

It’s one of the most notorious murder cases in the history of hip hop. Melly, along with his co-defendant Cortlen (also known as YNW Bortlen), faced accusations of killing their friends Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams in South Florida around October 2018.

Investigators presented forensic evidence indicating that Melly and Henry allegedly shot the victims in the back of a Jeep Compass and attempted to make it look like a drive-by shooting. The killings were described as particularly brutal and were claimed to have been carried out with premeditation. Despite this, the jury’s decision was not unanimous.

Melly had been in custody since February 2019, awaiting trial. Surprisingly, his time behind bars didn’t harm his music career. His fans remained loyal, streaming his music extensively, leading to 10 platinum and gold plaques in his discography, which was a significant achievement compared to when he had nothing prior to his initial arrest for the murders. It’s important to note that Melly’s life was on the line, as he faced the possibility of the death penalty during the trial.

Currently, Melly is a free man, but there is a possibility that the prosecutors might pursue another trial. The situation remains uncertain, and further developments are yet to unfold.
