Quavo Meets With Kamala Harris At The White House
Migos rapper Quavo’s personal trauma, stemming from the tragic shooting of his nephew Takeoff last year, has driven him to become a passionate advocate against gun violence. His journey led him to private meetings with influential political figures, including Vice President Kamala Harris. He was slated to participate in a panel discussion at the Congressional Black Caucus legislative conference in Washington, focusing on addressing this pressing issue.
Quavo’s decision to speak out was deeply influenced by the untimely death of Takeoff in 2022, who was tragically caught in the crossfire outside a Houston bowling alley during a dispute stemming from a dice game. Takeoff’s tragic passing added to the distressing trend of fatal shootings involving hip-hop stars, such as Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke, PnB Rock, and Young Dolph in recent years.
During the panel discussion, Quavo shared the stage with Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, Rep. Lucy McBath, whose activism was ignited by the loss of her teenage son to gun violence, and Greg Jackson of the Community Justice Action Fund. Together, they engaged in a solutions-oriented dialogue, addressing community intervention strategies, the ongoing battle against gun violence, and the transformative power of advocacy.
