J. Cole – 7 Minute Drill (Official Audio)

J. Cole surprised fans with the unexpected release of his latest album, “Might Delete Later,” dropping it overnight without much warning. This marks the North Carolina rapper’s first full-length project since “The Off-Season” in May 2021. The album features collaborations with a diverse array of artists including Ari Lennox, Gucci Mane, Young Dro, T-Minus, Cam’ron, Bas, the Alchemist, Ab-Soul, Charlie Heat, Mike Will Made-It, Conductor Williams, Central Cee, and more. You can listen to J. Cole’s new album below.

The release of “Might Delete Later” comes just a fortnight after Kendrick Lamar stirred up controversy with his track “Like That,” where he took shots at Drake and J. Cole. Cole, in response, addresses Lamar directly on the closing track of his new album, “7 Minute Drill.” He starts the song by asserting his roots in his hometown, stating, “I came up in the ’Ville, so I’m good when it’s tension/He still doin’ shows, but fell off like The Simpsons.” Cole proceeds to critique Lamar’s discography and subtly criticizes the Grammy Awards for heavily favoring the Compton rapper. (Lamar has received 50 Grammy nominations, winning 17; J. Cole has been nominated for 17, winning two.) The track concludes with Cole teasing his anticipated album, “The Fall Off,” once again.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That” currently sits at the top spot on the charts in the United States. For more insights, you can read Dylan Green’s review of the contentious track, “We Don’t Trust You.”
