Drake – Push Ups (Dissing Kendrick, Rick Ross, Future, Metro Boomin, and more)

“Push Ups” stands as a retaliatory strike from Canadian rapper Drake, hitting the airwaves on April 19, 2024. Its genesis lies in countering several tracks, particularly “Like That,” featured on Metro Boomin and Future’s joint albums, “We Don’t Trust You” and “We Still Don’t Trust You,” both from 2024. Drake’s lyrical aim in “Push Ups” takes aim at not just Metro Boomin and Future but also Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, the Weeknd, and Ja Morant.

The leaked demo of “Push Ups” emerged on April 13, 2024, offering glimpses of its potential with samples from Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s “Get Money” and a different outro. Another version surfaced later that day, showcasing alterations in lyrics and an extended sung outro while omitting the samples. Initial doubts arose about the authenticity of the track, speculated by some fans to be AI-generated due to its audio quality. However, such skepticism dissipated upon the official release of the track on April 19, 2024.

In the aftermath, two rebuttal tracks emerged: Lamar’s “Euphoria” and Ross’ “Champagne Moments.” Notably, “Push Ups” follows J. Cole’s “7 Minute Drill,” released on April 5 but withdrawn from streaming platforms a week later, as the second response to “Like That.”
