Title 42 Explained

President Joe Biden made his inaugural visit to the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday, generating controversy and criticism regarding the administration’s allocation of resources to the southern border. The visit occurred shortly after the announcement of a new, restrictive policy that effectively expands an immigration program known as Title 42, despite Biden’s previous commitment to terminating the program during his presidential campaign. Title 42, initially established to address public health and social welfare concerns, provides the government with the authority to take emergency measures, including preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
