The 21 Savage Story – Official Trailer
If you happened to come across an Instagram post from either 21 Savage or Donald Glover showcasing a film poster titled “American Dream: The 21 Savage Story,” featuring Glover and Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin as Savage, it might have seemed like a surreal moment. But no, it’s not just a promotional stunt for a single release. According to a press release, 21 Savage is indeed launching a movie in collaboration with Glover and McLaughlin. He even released a four-minute trailer, co-directed by Donald and Stephen Glover, Jamal Olori, and Fam Udeorji, providing a glimpse into the narrative, which appears to center around 21’s 2018 ICE arrest.
The trailer depicts real-life 21 Savage rapping in a deposition room, interspersed with scenes of Glover and McLaughlin portraying aspects of 21’s involvement in crime and music. The preview also introduces co-stars such as Jabari Banks, Victoria Pedretti, and Natasha Lyonne. However, this leaves us with several unanswered questions. Is this more of a visual album or a traditional movie? Will it be available on Tubi? Can we expect a verse from Childish Gambino? Is Natasha Lyonne portraying the Queen? And how many “21” ad-libs can a feature film incorporate? (Probably more than 21, we assume.) Answers may not be forthcoming for a while, as the film is set to be released around Independence Day. Nevertheless, 21 Savage is offering a taste of what’s to come even before July with the release of his third solo album, “AMERICAN DREAM,” this Friday. The album, featuring music inspired by the film, is already available.
