45 Bags of Human Remains Found in Mexico During Search
Human remains were found in 45 bags in western Mexico, and state prosecutors stated that they bear resemblance to several missing call center employees. The Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that forensic tests are required to formally identify the bodies. The preliminary information suggests that the discovered remains in Zapopan match the physical characteristics of some of the young individuals who were being sought after. The authorities made this disturbing discovery in a ravine near Guadalajara, the capital city of Jalisco, during a search for seven call center workers in their 20s and 30s who had disappeared. Additionally, another person potentially linked to the group is also missing.
During a press conference, security minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez revealed that the initial investigations indicated that the call center workers were involved in real estate fraud and telephone extortion. The authorities are now working diligently to determine the number of individuals the remains belong to, their identities, and the causes of their deaths. Reports from local media suggest that the remains belong to both men and women.
The state prosecutor’s office issued a statement explaining that the discovery was made based on a tip-off, and the investigation was further complicated by the challenging terrain and lack of sunlight. Mexico has been plagued by organized crime, and according to government data, over 100,000 people are currently missing in the country. Jalisco state, in particular, is a stronghold for major cartels like the Jalisco New Generation cartel (CJNG) and its rivals, Nueva Plaza.
